Faculty & Staff

Our goal at the Career Center is to help MSU students develop skills that will enhance professional preparation oriented toward careers and lifelong career satisfaction. Because faculty provide the educational foundation and practical skills needed to succeed, we realize that you are a critical part of each student's career success.

Below is a list of ways that we can work together:

Classroom Presentations - The Career Center has a wide range of topics and activities for classroom presentations. Heather Woodall is available to speak to your classes during the semester. We can also arrange presentations by professionals (often alumni), who can tell about their company and how their major has helped them in their careers.

Required Classroom Assignments - We are aware that certain assignments for students require the assistance of the Career Center. If you are requesting the assistance of services offered at the Career Center to complete syllabus requirements, please contact Heather Woodall as soon as you can. With proper planning and preparation, we’ll be able to best meet the needs of you and your students!

Career Fairs - Career fairs provide excellent opportunities for your students to meet representatives of companies in their industries of choice and establish a network of contacts. Please visit our “Events” page for a list of career center events to announce to your classes. Plan to join us at the Career Fair or an employer event. Recruiters enjoy meeting faculty and hearing about new programs and curriculum changes.

Refer a Student - Sometimes students may come to you for career advice. Question topics may range from jobs or internships available in a particular field of study to how to negotiate salary. Sometimes one question leads to many questions, and often students are unaware of the career resources available to them. If we can help you to better advise a student, please don't hesitate to get us involved. Encourage your students to visit the career center for an appointment to learn about the many ways we can help.

Refer an Employer - Because many faculty members have friends and colleagues in industry, they have been one of our most valued allies in connecting students with potential employers.

From time to time an employer may contact you directly for the names and contact information of potential job candidates. At the Career Center, we strive to make sure that all aspects of the recruiting process are fair and equitable to candidates and employing organizations. Please be aware of the influence you may have on the hiring process, and be mindful of FERPA regulations when providing student information to employers. We encourage you to refer all employers to the Career Center and contact us with the names and contact information of any employer that has an interest in recruiting MSU students.
