Dr. David Moffett honored as 'Father of MSU-Meridian Campus'

MERIDIAN, MS - The Meridian Campus of Mississippi State University recently honored Dr. David Moffett, professor emeritus and "Father of the MSU-Meridian Campus" as he was called by MSU President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong, during a recent ceremony and reception for the dean who led the regional MSU campus from its inception in 1972 until his retirement in 1998.

"He literally has had his fingerprints all over this campus for decades...His impact on the community is still felt-and will be for decades," Foglesong said.

The event culminated with the unveiling of a plaque to be placed on the tower leading into the MSU-Meridian Campus facility as a lasting, tangible symbol of Moffett's leadership and legacy.

"I am humbled and at a loss for adequate words of appreciation," Moffett said. "As we look back over the past 35 years, we find thousands whose dreams have now become reality. I was truly blessed to have been a part of this process of turning dreams into reality, and am especially pleased that this plaque is to be placed in the tower, which to me is a highly symbolic statement of the concept of aspirations and dreams."
