(MERIDIAN) – Recognizing outstanding educators and promoting positive educational programs in our area is the goal of the division of Education at MSU-Meridian.
For the fifth year, the division hosted the Excellence in Education banquet and Phi Delta Kappa Initiation program Tuesday, May 8th at 6:00 pm in Kahlmus auditorium.
Eleven local educators and four education graduates of MSU-Meridian were recognized as well as 24 new members inducted into Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), the premier professional association for educators.
According to Dr. George Thomas, Professor Emeritus at MSU-Meridian, area educators from Meridian and Lauderdale County school districts were nominated for the Excellence in Education award by school administrators in their respective districts and/or by PDK members. Selection was based on their positive contributions to their school and their professional qualifications. MSU-Meridian education graduates were nominated by their supervising teachers and selected by the faculty of the education division.

Jessica Johnson (Meridian) – Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, May 2012 - student teaching internship at Enterprise Elementary School.
Paige Satcher (Enterprise) – Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, May 2012 – student teaching internship at Clarkdale Middle School. Chosen Outstanding undergraduate in Education, Riley Scholar, and Summa Cum Laude honors with a 4.0 GPA.
Danielle Tyrney (Quitman) – Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, English, May 2012 – student teaching internship at Enterprise High School. Graduate with Cum Laude honors.
Hannah Watkins (Union) – Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, English, May 2012 – student teaching internship at Philadelphia High School. Graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors with a 4.0 GPA.
