The Bachelor of Science in Special Education degree prepares students for teacher certification in special education (grades K-12) through coursework and experiences that focus on children and youth who have mild/moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities or other areas of exceptionality.
The Special Education curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for endorsements in mild/moderate disabilities and culminates in the teaching internship, a semester-long field experience in a public school setting.
Some students may wish to obtain licensure in the areas of special education and elementary education. Others may use this degree to teach at mental health treatment facilities such as a state hospital or adolescent unit.
