  • ARC-PA Accreditation-Provisional site visit is scheduled April 19-20, 2019
  • If accreditation-provisional is granted, the program plans to matriculate the first cohort in January 2020


  • Current CPR certification
  • An earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited United States college or university
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and science GPA of 3.0
  • Must participate in an on campus interview
  • Minimum GRE score of 300
  • Must meet and maintain Programs Technical Standards
  • Must be able to pass and maintain criminal background check and frequent drug screenings
  • Courses must be for science majors and have a Science Prefix (BIO, CHEM, etc.)
  • Documented healthcare experience.

Applicants must have completed the following required courses and have earned a grade of  “C” or better in the following required subjects and have completed the required courses within the past ten years. All science courses must be for science majors (survey courses are not accepted).

  • Biological Sciences - 8 hours of upper level coursework (3000+ level courses)
  • Microbiology or Bacteriology (with lab) 4 credits
  • Chemistry I and II (with labs) 8 credits
  • Anatomy (human or comparative with a lab, comparative preferred) 4 credits
  • Physiology (general, human or comparative with lab, comparative preferred) 4 credits
  • Statistics (with analysis of variance and/or multiple regression) 3 credits
  • Genetics 3 credits
  • Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry (with lab) 4 credits • Behavioral Sciences 6 credits (Sociology or Psychology)
  • College Algebra or higher 3 credits

*Mississippi State University-Meridian has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Mississippi State University-Meridian anticipates matriculating its first class in January 2020, pending achievement of Accreditation-Provisional status at the September 2019 ARC-PA meeting.   Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class of students.
