Academic Scholarships

Admission to the university is required for scholarship consideration.  In addition to earned outstanding honors and awards, these scholarships require a competitive GPA on a minimum of 48 transferable community college hours and excellent leadership and service activities. To be considered for Phi Theta Kappa, private, and leadership & service scholarships, the General Scholarship Application must be submitted. Be sure to check your recommended scholarships after completing the General Scholarship Application.

Please note that our scholarship program is reviewed each year and is subject to change. The information provided below is for the 2020-2021 academic year. All scholarships are awarded on a funds-available basis.


Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

  • Award: Two-year award, $8,000 ($2,000 per semester) with 3.25 - 3.49 cumulative GPA - NOT stackable with Community College Recognition Scholarship
  • Award: Two-year award, $8,000 ($2,000 per semester) with 3.5 cumulative GPA and above - IS stackable with Community College Recognition Scholarship
  • Criteria:
    • Completion of at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
    • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal
      • This includes submission of your Phi Theta Kappa verification

Community College Recognition Scholarship

  • Award: Two-year award, $4,000 ($1,000 per semester)
  • Criteria:
    • Completion of at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU
    • 3.0 cumulative GPA

*May not be combined with the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship unless student has a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher.


Phi Theta Kappa Chapter President Scholarship

  • Award: Two-year award, $2,000 ($500 per semester)

    Criteria:

    • Meets Phi Theta Kappa scholarship criteria
    • President of Phi Theta Kappa at your community college
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
    • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa President Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal, which ncludes submission of your sponsor's official email address
    • Letter of verification by sponsor must be uploaded into the MSU scholarship portal by August 1

* May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship


Phi Theta Kappa Officer Scholarship

Award: One-year award, $1,000 ($500 per semester)

  • Criteria:
    • 3.25 cumulative GPA
    • Served as an Officer for Phi Theta Kappa
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
    • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal, which includes submission of your sponsor's official email address
    • Letter of verification by sponsor must be uploaded into the MSU scholarship portal by August 1

*May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. May not be stacked with the PTK President Scholarship or the Presidential Partnership Scholarship.​


Community College Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship*

  • Level One Award: $28,000 over two years ($7,000 per semester)
  • Level One Criteria:
    • Completion of at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU
    • 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa and Community College Recognition Scholarships
  • Level Two Award: $42,000 over three years ($7,000 per semester)
  • Level Two Criteria:
  • Completion of at least 24 hours but fewer than 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU
  • 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • May NOT be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa and Community College Recognition Scholarships

* Applicants who receive a non-resident tuition scholarship will not be a candidate for the Alumni Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship, except in the summer.

*The 100% Veteran, Service-Member, Dependent, Spouse Non-Resident Tuition Waiver cannot be stacked with the Community College Non-Resident Tuition Scholarships.

*Academic Common Market may not be stacked with the Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship


Phi Theta Kappa All-Mississippi Academic Team Scholarship

  • Award:
    • First Team: One-year award, $2,000 ($1000 per semester)
    • Second Team: One-year award, $1,000 ($500 per semester)
  • Criteria:
    • Named a member of the All-Mississippi Academic Team
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
    • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa All-MS Academic Team Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal
      • This includes official documentation of your participation/status with this organization

*May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship


Phi Theta Kappa International Officer Scholarship

  • Award: Two-year award, $8,000 ($2,000 per semester)
  • Criteria:
    • 3.25 cumulative GPA
    • Served as an International Officer for Phi Theta Kappa
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
    • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal, which includes documentation of your participation in this organization.
    • Notification from Phi Theta Kappa of your position as an International Phi Theta Kappa Officer.

*May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship


All USA Community College Team Scholarship

  • Award: One-year award $2,500
  • Criteria:
    • Named a member of the All USA Community College Team
    • Submission of the General Scholarship Application
  • Submission of the Phi Theta Kappa All-MS Academic Team Scholarship application found in the "Recommended" list under the "Opportunities" tab in the MSU scholarship portal
  • This includes official documentation of your participation/status with this organization

*May be awarded in addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship


Presidential Partnership Scholarship

  • Award: Covers the cost of tuition for two years (4 semesters)
  • Criteria:
    • Student must be a MS resident and currently attending a MS community/junior college
    • Student must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa
    • Nominated by MS community/junior college president
    • Selected by MSU Scholarship Committee
    • Cannot be stacked with other academic scholarships
