Additional MSU Scholarships

Admission to the university is required for all scholarships. To be considered for competitive and private scholarships, the general application must be submitted.

Recipients must enroll as a full-time student the semester in which the award is received. Recipients also must remain in good standing.

Please note that our scholarship program is reviewed each year and is subject to change. The information provided below is for the 2018-2019 academic year

Tillman Military Scholarship

  • Award: Amount Varies – Award can be used to cover direct study-related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
  • Who is eligible to apply for a Tillman Military Scholarship?
    • Veteran and active servicemembers of both pre- and post-9/11 service
    • Servicemembers who wish to start, finish or further their education
  • Those enrolled as a full-time student at an American institution of higher learning
    • Servicemembers of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve
    • Servicemembers pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degrees, at 2-year, 4-year, public or private institutions
    • Spouses of servicemembers
  • Including those who are survivors of a servicemember
  • What criteria will be considered for selecting Tillman Military Scholars?
    • Educational and career ambitions
    • Record of personal achievement
    • Compelling, thoughtful, genuine and thorough essay question responses
    • Demonstration of service to others in the community and a desire to continue such service
  • Documents required
    To complete the application, the following documents will need to be uploaded:
    • Documentation of military service (only DD214 or a personal service record, i.e. Officer Record Brief, Enlistment Record Brief, Basic Individual Record, Personal Data Record, Performance Summary Record will be accepted)
    • Resume (including education, work, public service history, recognitions and awards earned)
    • Two (2) essay question responses (to be inserted into the online application). Prepare your responses now and copy and paste them into the online application. Each response must be no more than 400 words.

The online application will open in February.

Sumners Scholarship

  • Application Deadline:
    Fall: September 15
    Spring: November 15
  • Award:
    • Sumners will only be awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours and graduate students enrolled in a minimum of 9 semester hours
    • Maximum award for undergraduates is 8 semesters; graduates is 4 semesters
    • Sumner awards will be $1,800 per year ($900/sem) beginning Fall 2012
    • Sumners will not be awarded for the summer term
  • Criteria:
    • Must be a permanent resident of Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Montgomery, or Webster counties in Mississippi
    • Must submit a Sumners application by the appropriate deadline to be approved by the E.H. Sumners Foundation
    • Applications must be submitted annually

Veteran, Service-Member, Dependent, Spouse, Non-Resident Tuition Waiver

  • Award: Veteran, service member, and dependent waiver is 100% of the non-resident tuition.
  • The veteran/service member shall complete and submit the following documentation:
